For Which Diseases Cord Blood Could Be Used?


Today, some types of cancer, immune failure, metabolic and genetic diseases are treated with stem cell transplantation.


Blood and immune system which is damaged due to disease and chemotherapy is being restructured with this treatment.

Until recently bone marrow or peripheral blood was used as stem cell source, today cord blood is also used for more than 70 diseases that could be treated with stem cell transplantation.

Studies show that in the near future stem cells could be used in order to repair or regenarate damaged tissues and organs, which is commonly known as regenerative medicine.

For this purpose, research has been continuing for cellular therapies, heart diseases, brain diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, liver diseases like cirrhosis, intestinal diseases like Crohn's disease and hormonal disorders such as diabetes.
